Another tough league game against Sully Pinks and after our last game we had against them we knew we had a hard game ahead of us. With illness and injuries we had depleted numbers for this game, so knew we would need to dig deep and be patient in our play as we had to ask a few players to play in new or unfamiliar positions for the first time. With a few changes in place, it took a time to get some rhythm to our play, but we soon settled and attacked the opposition end with some nice flowing moves.  Savanna picked up a lovely ball in midfield, did a back heel trick to beat the advancing players, turned them and then took on 3 defenders to slot the ball past the advancing keeper to make in 1-0. Once this goal went in you could see the players relax a bit more and start dictating play as they had been in other games.  The pressure we started to apply to the game was telling with numerous attacks and shots on goal coming thick and fast. The continued pressure forced a corner, which was delivered with precision by Nevaeh that went to Savanna who did a little flick ball in the penalty area that then went to Evan who struck the ball cleanly into the bottom corner of the goal to make it 2-0.

There was some lovely flowing football from both teams and during Sully’s movement they took advantage of some missed tackles from us to mount an attack and score a goal of their own to make it 2-1 at half time.

The second half started off at a cracking pace with quick through balls and determination to win every ball was great to see. When Sully did get through, our new defence with defenders Lexi and Renee playing in different positions more than stood up to the challenge thrown at them.  With Nevaeh, Lexi and Renee in defence so many passages of play started from them as they played out from the back. We had many a good run and shots from our midfield of Seren and Sienna (Captain for the day) to keep the pressure on the opposition.  From outwide, Grace ran from our own half, down the right wing, cut inside and passed a ball through our midfield that went to Meg. Meg picked it up and played an inch perfect ball  back to Grace, who had run into the opposition penalty area and slotted the ball home to make the score 3-1 at the end.

Todays game was a different challenge but in a strange way, a welcome one too, as it allowed us to play a few players in different positions that they may not of had to play before. That can only be a good experience for us going forward during this season.  Each of them fitted in so well to the point, you would not have known they had never played in those positions before as they looked so comfortable and enjoyed their new roles.  Well done all, you all dug deep today to get through the game with fantastic teamwork. 👏👏
