A league encounter against a strong Baglan side where we would need to start the game positively and quickly, so not to give the opposition any time to settle. This, Cardiff City did from the whistle with a few quick attacks on goal. Our 1st goal in the 9th minute came after sustained pressure where Yomn quickly released the ball, which Renee controlled and threaded a lovely pass through to Savanna who slotted our 1st goal in making it 1-0.
The first half was like poetry in motion, with each pass finding their target, first to the ball, tackle and movement both on and off the ball all just went to plan and worked. Some of the interplay was fantastic to watch and this movement allowed us to score another 2 goals. One came via a kick from a baglan player which ended up at our player of the match Renee’s feet, who with a lovely strike scored from 20 yards. The next goal came from a lovely passing movement which started from Lexi who passed to Charlie, who passed a precision pass out to winger Renee putting a fantastic ball into the middle for Seren to shoot the ball straight into the back of the net making it 3-0 at half time.
Again discussing at half time that we still could not relax with our scoreline and we would need to start strongly to again settle and dictate play. Baglan had other ideas and came straight at us strongly as they instantly shot a great ball in with Yomn making a lovely save. They continued to fire in shots, win the ball and put real pressure on us. The pressure started to tell and baglan scored another 2 goals making it 3-2 to us. With Baglan on top at this stage, you could of forgiven the girls crumbling, but they stayed strong, controlled and worked together as a team to dig their way back on top. This teamwork allowed a passage of passing between Grace, Meg and Nevaeh who laid a pass into Seren who scored a lovely left foot goal making it 4-2. Quickly after this goal Seren scored another fantastic goal, making it her first hat trick with us to make it 5-2. Keeping the pressure on resulted in another quick goal, which came when a ball went out to defender Nevaeh, who cooly and calmly hit a powerful shot which hit the bottom left corner making it 6-2. Despite the score, fair play to Baglan they never gave up, came back strong forcing our keeper Yomn to make a few good saves, but they scored another goal to make the score 6-3. Cardiff still didn’t give up, wanting more and our play forced a corner in the dying minutes with Lexi playing a quick short corner to Ffion, who controlled the ball from the edge of box and fired in a fantastic goal to make the final score 7-3.
Todays game was a fantastic advert for the girls game and had it all from two very determined sides despite the scoreline. Some of the football played, teamwork shown and determination to not give up, no matter what was great to see. Cardiff City won today, but certainly didn’t have it all their own way, having to deal with different challenges thrown at them which can only be great for our development. Keeping the faith we are all in it together, following our process, belief, discipline and teamwork to earn the well deserved result today. Fantastic display today, well done all, we are Top of our League. 👏👏
