A home league fixture this week against what we knew would be a strong and competitive Aberdare side. A fast start, to settle was needed and we definitely did that with a quick goal. Mounting an attack the ball was controlled and passed on by Evan who passed the ball into the path of Savanna who took a first time shot and scored to make it 1-0. Great start and Cardiff should of pushed on and controlled the game but Aberdare had other ideas and mounted attack after attack of high balls and passes that had us penned into our own half and every time we got out, the ball was launched straight back in, not giving the team time to settle. The pressure told and Aberdare scored 2 goals in the first half to make it 2-1 at half time. The second half started and was very competitive with the ball going from one end to another. Going forward Cardiff played some lovely football and came close a number of times to scoring. Despite Cardiff having most of the possession, Aberdare launched a ball and scored again to make it 3-1 to them.
With the clock ticking away Cardiff knew we had to take control and get back into the game quickly. A ball went to Evan who hit a long range shot from distance that cleared the opposition defence and bounced over the keeper and into the goal to make the score 3-2 to Aberdare. This seemed to spur Cardiff on to mount a number of attacks in the final minutes of the game. Another pass laid off by Seren to Amelia, allowed a long shot to be taken from Amelia from just inside the opposition half but found the keeper in the right place to catch the shot. A lovely corner was taken and was attacked by Sienna who controlled the ball just outside the opposition penalty box, dribbled the ball and hit a lovely shot that hit the crossbar hard, rebounded out and was cleared by Baglan. Seren took a lovely corner and from the angle of the flight of the ball looked as if it went into the net to equalise, with everyone cheering the ball had somehow managed to go out onto the top of the net and we knew at this point after these final chances not going in we knew it wasnt going to be our day and the game ended 3-2 to Aberdare. Great team effort to try and rescue the points today, but we just ran out of time in the end.
