Horrell-Thomas brace helps The Dragons win a blockbuster at Coach Road

A brace from Grace Horrell-Thomas and heroics from Laura O’Sullivan gave Cardiff City Ladies a 2 – 1 victory away to Plymouth

Horrell-Thomas’s 40th and 73rd minute goals secured City all three points in a crucial result that saw them leapfrog Plymouth in the league.  Laura O’Sullivan had a fantastic game and it all started in the 8th minute when she denied Whitmore from nine yards out. She’d do it again in the 45th minute to deny Ellie Sara, but before that, Mia Endacott scored the opener for Argyle in spectacular fashion. A stray corner gave her a chance on the edge of the area and she curled it home in the 34th minute. Just six minutes later Grace Horrell-Thomas would even things out. She was an everlasting threat on the left.  She got the ball in the box and shimmied onto her left foot where she struck the ball low from a tight angle. Read could do nothing for the hosts as Horrell-Thomas placed it perfectly into the bottom right.

In the second half, O’Sullivan continued to impress. The Welsh international goalkeeper was her team’s woman of the match. In a scrappy and intense second half, both teams needed someone to step up and that woman was yet again Grace Horrell-Thomas. Read in goal for the Green Army made a wonderful save, but her parry went straight to Horrell-Thomas who smashed it home into an open net. City led 2 – 1 with 17 minutes to play. After regulation time was up, City still led. Laura O’Sullivan continued to make save after save into the 100th minute of playing time until finally, the ref blew his whistle and the Dragons had won.
