The Cardiff City Ladies era ends in defeat against Oxford United Women

Report by Matt Priest

A Zoe Barratt brace secured the 3 points for the visitors in the final game of the season

Zoe Barratt scored early on for Oxford in the 9th minute after a quick throw in left her unmarked. Her shot hit the underside of the crossbar and into the back of the net.

The visitors thought they doubled their lead shortly after but King was flagged for offside.

Cardiff worked their way into the game 20 minutes in with Tianna Teisar dancing around the Oxford defence for the hosts first chance of the game.

Ellie Sargent looked to equalise around the 25 minute mark but the ball drifted just wide of the far post after a turn by Teisar split open the Oxford defence.

The first half drew to a close with Cardiff on the front foot but the home side could not find the back of the net.

The second half started off cagey with neither team able to find a breakthrough.

Cardiff seemed to find some momentum around the hour mark with Jessie Taylor’s cross putting the Oxford keeper under serious pressure.

More Cardiff pressure was forcing mistakes out of the Oxford defence with a through ball by Emily Poole splitting open the visitors back line, but Teisar’s shot was well saved by Criere.

Cardiff’s continued pressure paid off with Ruby Scahill’s long range effort going through the hands of Criere and into the back of the Oxford net 72 minutes in.

Zoe Barratt doubled her tally for the afternoon in the 83rd minute with a rebounded shot after an excellent initial save by Laura O’Sullivan, which put Oxford back into the lead.

Thank you for all your support throughout the season, we look forward to you joining us as we start our Gwalia United era.
